Only 7 kilometers away, you can visit Siena
and its monuments and feel the atmosphere of bygone times
whilst strolling through the streets of the old city. |
Driving
along the Siena-Firenze highway northwards, just 15 kilometres
away is the small village of Monteriggioni
situated high up on a hill within a 13th century boundary
wall with 14 towers, and offering a wide panorama of the Sienese
hills.
Once out of the estate, turn right and after 30 kilometres
you will come to the small Romanesque church of Montesiepi
,with a circular plan, which treasures the sword of St. Galgano
embedded in the mountain rock. |
| Nearby,
you can visit the 13th century Gothic style, Cistercian Abbay
of St. Galgano , which is quite a spectacular
sight with its open naves, since the roof collapsed in the
18th century and was never rebuilt. |
| Going
southwards, 9 kilometres from Buonconvento on the Cassia highway
is the town of Monte
Oliveto , where you can visit the Oliveto Benedectine
Monastery, a complex of buildings erected during the period
1300 and 1700. |
Still
going southwards along the Cassia highway, you will come to
Montalcino and, then, a further10 kilometres on will bring
you to the Benedictine Abbey with its grand Church
of St.Antimo .
. For those who like walking, directly from the estate you
can easily reach the monastery of
Lecceto visible from the park of cedars,
or go to Belcaro
along dirt roads far away from the traffic, strolling totally
relaxed and in contact with nature.
